The Singapore Plumbing Society (SPS) recently had the privilege of hosting delegates from the India Plumbing Association (IPA) as part of ongoing efforts to bring the prestigious World Plumbing Conference (WPC) to Singapore.

A Warm Welcome to IPA Delegates
On 15 August 2024, SPS hosted the IPA delegation during their visit to Singapore. This gathering set the stage for productive discussions aimed at positioning Singapore as a future host city for the WPC. The SPS leadership welcomed the IPA delegates with a focus on showcasing Singapore’s unique blend of innovation, infrastructure, and commitment to excellence in the plumbing industry.

Site Visit to Showcase Environmental Innovation
As part of their visit, the IPA delegates were taken to a leading environmental engineering facility in Singapore. This visit highlighted the country’s advancements in sustainable water management and waste-to-energy technologies, crucial to the future of plumbing and public utilities. The delegates were impressed with the cutting-edge technologies and Singapore’s role as a global leader in sustainable urban development.

Key Meeting with Stakeholders
The following day, on 16 August 2024, SPS convened a significant meeting that brought together IPA delegates, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), representatives from the Public Utilities Board (PUB), and the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC). This meeting marked the first step in a collaborative effort to strategize for the upcoming WPC 2026, set to be held at the NEC Birmingham. The primary objective was to align the interests of all stakeholders to ensure Singapore presents a compelling bid to host the WPC in 2029.

During the discussions, key aspects of Singapore’s bid were highlighted, including the city’s world-class infrastructure, robust support from governmental and industry bodies, and its strategic location as a global hub for innovation and trade. The collective commitment from SPS, STB, PUB, and NTUC reflects Singapore’s readiness and enthusiasm to host a conference of such global significance.

Looking Ahead
The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and determination to bring the WPC to Singapore. As SPS continues to work closely with the IPA and other stakeholders, the Society remains confident that Singapore’s bid for the WPC 2029 will demonstrate the city’s capabilities as a premier destination for international conferences and its leadership in the global plumbing industry.

SPS will continue to keep its members informed on the progress of this exciting endeavor as we look forward to potentially welcoming the global plumbing community to our shores in 2029.
